Quality Search Engine Marketing Blogs

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Over the past few years I’ve become addicted to reading my list of blogs each morning. The majority of these blogs are related to internet marketing and search engine optimization. I’ve compiled quite a list of the top blogs in the industry (I’ll get around to posting the list one of these days), but I’ve also found some blogs that aren’t so well known of significant value. Apogee Search Marketing Blog is one of those.

Trusted Search Engine Marketing Resources

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

For those of you into SEO you are all to familiar with the various perspectives on the subject. I’ve decided to start building a trusted list of SEO resources and would appreciate other takes.

  • seomoz - This site is my personal favorite. These guys take a refreshing approach to the industry.
  • Cre8asiteForums - A longtime favorite among many SEOs.
  • SearchEngineWatch
  • added 4/20/2006 - Matt Cutts - Whether planned or not, Matt has become an authority in the search industry. He was one of the first google employees and has a knack for “leaking” information on updates.

Each comment will be reviewed and potentially added to the list.

  3. Tan Chade-Meng - Engineer
  4. Wesley Chan - Product Manager/Staff Photographer
  5. added 12/29/2005 Adam Bosworth

Movin’ On Up

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Great news for those of you following my attempts to surpass Alex McArthur the actor in SERPs (search engine result pages). About 2 months ago this domain was floating around the 10th page for search results on “Alex McArthur”. At the time AlexMcArthur.com consisted of one static page with very limited content. I’ve since turned this site into a blog with SEO friendly pages and it quickly jumped to number 2 on most search engines. Also, I took some time to submit to numerous directories and acquire a handful of linkbacks. It will be interesting to see what this sites PR (page rank) is after the next update. I expect a small jump to 2, maybe 3 if I’m lucky.

As far as the Alex McArthur (me) vs Alex McArthur (actor) challenge goes it appears a long road lays ahead. I’m sure there will be ups and downs along the way, but hopefully before I die he will feel the pain of being #2. The actor’s fan site has numerous linkbacks that will take me some time to outdo. Why do people have to be so obsessed with movie actors? Quit linking to the schmuk! Desperado wasn’t that good!

This site is optimized fairly well. I’m sure I could do some tweaking and include a few more keywords, but my first priority is to get as many linkbacks as possible. Too bad I have a job and a family or I could spend all day getting links. This site isn’t very high on my to-do list so be patient. However, it will be interesting to see what happens over time.

Portal Content Organization

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

I’ve made significant progress with Utahn.com the past few days. Most of the functionality is in place. So…now it’s time to work on the content structure. Most of my contract web projects are portfolio or small business sites so I lack experience organizing larger amounts of content. I’ve done some google searchs for content organization but can’t seem to find any useful advice. I guess I’ll just have to sit down and start organizing a hierarchy in excel and go from there. I’ll post any useful links I come across on the topic later.
